Webinar: Ballast true story – The development of the first SoC Hub chip

Ballast true story – The development of the first SoC Hub chip
18 May 2022, 12–16 (UTC +3)

System-on-Chip is the key factor for technological development of today. System-on-Chip design is a complex and multifaceted process that requires versatile expertise and integration skills. Putting efforts in SoC design can give companies significant competitive advantage.

Couple of years ago, SoC Hub brought together Tampere University and local businesses to join forces in a SoC co-creation project which is first of a kind in Finland. The project achieved its first goal in the end of 2021 when SoC Hub’s first SoC “Ballast” was finished and taped out. The development was accomplished at a very fast pace for the industry standard, and the ambitious aim wouldn’t have been possible without close cooperation between the project partners.

Now it is time to share what the process consisted of, who were involved in it, and what were the challenges as well as successes.

In this webinar you’ll learn about:

  • SoC design flow
  • Ballast content overview
  • schedule and the phases of the project
  • development organization
  • hardware dependent SW for RISC-V SoC
  • infrastructure: agreements, licenses and tools needed in the SoC project
  • feasibility: time management, costs, the lessons learned
