Tampere has a long history in SoC design, strong industry-academia cooperation experience and numerous rapidly growing SoC design companies. SoC Hub is a consortium of Tampere University, Nokia and several companies that develop System-on-Chip design at the forefront of Europe’s Chips Act. The pioneering and ambitious initiative goes well beyond a conventional research project. It collects key players and creates a strong ecosystem for SoC design in Finland.

Tampere University has a unique combination of expertise areas covering the whole pipeline of SoC development from architecture definition to the functioning chip. Tampere University has also extensive tool, lab, and server infrastructure.

Job description

We are looking for two enthusiastic System-on-Chip (SoC) Postdoctoral Research Fellows to work as a system architects and technical leads in our growing team at Tampere University. You will lead a team which matches best your expertise area. SoC Hub includes several teams handling all aspects of System-on-Chip design: specification, development tools, RTL design, verification, SW architecture and tools, physical design and sample testing of chips fabricated in leading foundries. This includes system architecture definition, use case base verification as well as dedicated module developments such as ML/AI, security, interconnect, RISC-V architectures as examples. You will be working closely with the industry and participate in EU wide research projects. You would also disseminate the results of the project and spot specific areas to explore for world-leading research.

Requirements

You should have a PhD degree in computer engineering, information technology, computer science, electrical engineering, or other relevant research area.

Suitable background and skills include one or more of the following:

  • Memory architectures: external memory interfaces, cache systems
  • Network-on-chip and interconnect architectures

We offer

The positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of 2 years with an option to extend the duration up to five years in total. The planned starting date is in December 2022 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on the job demands level 5 (teaching and research staff).

You would be joining a research group that already has a significant amount of people working in chip development, with an established design environment, EDA tools, and silicon technologies available. The job belongs to a project with secured funding on test chip development with several industrial partners.
